W11 sits down with assistant manager Dan from Woodhouse, he talks men’s fashion and his view on Notting Hill.
Sat downstairs tucked away around a corner from the noise of the in-store barber. Dan originally from Bolton, gave us an insight into men’s fashion from the shop floor.
Woodhouse stocks numerous brands in store and even more on their website, which one is your favourite?
The brand of my choice is Uniform for the dedicated it is Swedish. I’ve only been here six months so it’s a new brand to me. It started five years ago creative by a mixture of artist and snowboarders. They collaborated wanting something to wear once they were not snowboarding; it still has an element of fun to it. Uniform for the dedicated use their fabrics and designs in an unusual and funky way so they are my favourite.
What is your opinion on the changes of men’s fashion over the years?
I think it has changed mostly the fact that’s guys wear what ever they want too. There used to be a few stigmas surrounding certain trends but everyone is individual and I don’t think people get picked on for their style in a bad way its more positive.
What would you say the top three trends are for menswear this SS14?
Guys are moving away from flip-flops and heading towards sandals like Birkenstocks. Another trend colour wise would be turquoise it is permanent in a lot of the brands at the moment. The third one that sticks out to me is short collars (points to his own) there seems to be a real variation; they seem to be getting shorter and smarter. It gives the smart casual element so its easier to wear.
So tell us your wardrobe staple this summer
I like a real casual jacket. Really lightweight its smart you can just throw it on, something you don’t have to hang up it can just be thrown on your bed. I have a couple of them my favourite being from Acne it is tailored but made of Nylon.
In three words describe Notting Hill
I have mixed feelings on the area one negative but I’ll leave that out. (he says with a slight side smile) My three words have to be… Trendy, Positive and calming. It’s a nice peaceful part of London.
