You were probably
wondering who was this gorgeous girl walking in front of the pastel houses
during our photoshoot? Meet our model Yaroslava Kurbatova, Fashion Management
student at London College of Fashion.
For our Summer Romance
issue, we wanted to find a young lady who would represent everything associated
with women who live in vibrant Notting Hill: stylish, smart and effortless,
just like Yaroslava. Although the weather in London is always a subject of moaning,
Yaroslava breaks all the stereotypes about the gloomy Russians and meets
everyday with a smile on her face. We bet you would want to know her better.
Here is your chance.
What projects are
you currently involved with?
As part of my university project me and my
group are working on launching our own bracelets and bodychains brand for
summer season.
What are your
favourite places to visit in Notting Hill?
I can never pass Gail’s cafĂ© without entering
it. It’s always very busy as it is located right next to the famous market on
Portobello road. But waiting is definitely worth it!
What is your favourite
holiday destination?
It depends on the time I am planning my
holiday: Alps for winter break and South of France/Spain for summer. But I have
been to Dubai recently and now I really want to move away from Europe for the
summer and explore that part of the world.
How would describe
your personal style?
As I’m always on the go, I give preference to
more casual style. I like experimenting with textures, colours and prints and
making statement using bright accessories.
What is it like to be an international student
in London?
Very unique! Back home I didn’t find anything
special about being Russian, but here it’s completely different. People always
want to know more about your country, culture and yourself as well.
What are your career
goals?
For my career goals I am trying to aim high. I
want to be involved in the business side of the fashion industry. Being a buyer
for the well-known department store or working for such big retailers as
Burberry – these are my goals.
What music do you
listen to when you're sad?
I call my mum and listen to her voice, and then
I’m not sad anymore. Does this count? I listen to music that reminds me of
something either good or bad. But when I notice my choice of music is obviously
depressing, I ask myself ‘Stop, what am I doing? I have to pull myself together
and cheer up’!
What is your favourite
colour?
It changes from season to season. But for now,
I love pure white, electric blue and red.
Why did you choose
London as a place to study at university?
Due to cultural diversity, opportunities and
fashion inspiration it gives to me every second. I love everything about this
city, even crazy crowded Oxford Circus ;) Obviously, my course at London
College of Fashion was one of the main reasons I moved here.
If you could describe
your home city in 3 words, what would they be?
Vigorous, surprising & home
What do you like most
about Notting Hill?
Lots of small shops that you can’t find
anywhere else, and plenty of cafes/restaurants where you can spend the whole
day with your friends or just with music and book.
