Portobello Photography Gallery
253 Portobello Road, London W11 1LR
Set amongst the cosmopolitan hustle of
Portobello Road, the Portobello Photography Gallery is a space dedicated
to showcasing both contemporary and vintage imagery.
Opened in February 2014 by photography
enthusiast Matthew Cunningham and photographer Paul Anthony, the young gallery
has a nostalgic approach to photography by only presenting hand-crafted and
hand-printed imagery. The gallery’s sense of nouveau nostalgia is
synchronous with the surrounding area of Notting Hill— whose streets
offer an eclectic mix of the old and the new.
Homerton, London. By Paul Anthony
Many of the images on show are by the gallery’s
co-owner, Paul Anthony, who has documented the area for a decade and produced a
Thames and Hudson book on the architecture of Kensington and Chelsea.
One of twenty-four portraits by Virunan Chiddaycha for 24 hours: Bangkok
The Portobello Photography Gallery’s
latest exhibition is by Thai photographer Virunan Chiddaycha, entitled 24
hours: Bangkok. The exhibition features 24 —interestingly ‘hanged’— portraits
of 24 influential people, each with their own relationship to a specific hour
of the day in the Thai capital. Chiddaycha’s exhibition
ends on the 9th June 2014.
